Meet my family. :) Arn't they cute? haha. I'm biased, I know.
This is actually the Christmas card I designed and sent out to my friends and family this year. :) This shoot was so last minute and I threw these outfits together after a quick dive into our closet and a target run the week of. I wanted to show you an easy and simple way to add visual interest to your family's photoshoot outfits: TEXTURES.
I always tell my clients to stay away from too much patterns - e.g. stripes, graphics, plaids, words - because they can be distracting. (Of course, there are exceptions, but that's for another post). But, choosing simple solid colors can look too BORING! Well, in comes TEXTURES. :) Texture is the physical surface of your clothes and because it can affect how a color looks, its a way to add in more colors and patterns without it being distracting.
Let's take a closer look at the different types of textures I used...

Imagine these pictures with the exact same colors, but just in simple solid cotton. Boring! Textures add depth, sheens, other colors, patterns, shadows, highlights, and subtle complexity to your outfits! I especially love the velvet and leather because of the extra shine it added to our picture.
I like to just point out that I am indeed wearing (p)leather plants. Yes. Thank you. I barely was able to pull them on after 8 months of sweatpants/yogapants/leggings, but I did. and I deserve proper appreciation for the effort! :P That's my #momwin of the year!)
I digress. ANYWAYS...
Next time when you choose your family photoshoot outfits, try to include more textures and see how it changes the look!!
